San Diego Bay “biting full speed”

  • San Diego Bay is biting full speed right now! The fall is when bay sharks, sand bass, spotted bay bass, and halibut all “get on the chew.” I had a 1/2 day charter yesterday with 40 spotted bay bass, 2 halibut (shorts), 2 leopard sharks and 4 rays.

The bass came on 3″ Gulp! Shrimp and 3″ swimbaits in brown/orange while fishing the channel in 40′ of water. The sharks are coming in 13′ of water on squid or dead sardines, fished on carolina rigs with 40 lb test.

This time of year we have some of the biggest tides of the year with flat calm and sunny weather. It was just like a summer day out there yesterday. The surface temperature was about 63°.
