Sturgeon
Sturgeon can be found in extremely limited numbers at Lake Cuyamaca. No other lakes in or around San Diego are known to hold these prehistoric looking freshwater giants.
The sturgeon at Lake Cuyamaca were planted several decades ago, and once or twice per year one turns up in the fish reports there.
In November of 2014, 14 year old Travis Kane caught and released the lake record sturgeon at Cuyamaca, exceeding the 50 pound limit of the scale at the lake. You can read about that incredible catch here.
