The 200 anglers checked at El Capitan last week reported catching 332 bass, 1 bluegill, 21 crappie and 1 blue catfish. Most of the bass are being caught deep on plastics and jigs. Some anglers are struggling while others are going through 20-30 fish per trip, so if you’re not getting bit, find a new structure spot.
The launching conditions are good with the water level sitting 71.65 feet below spill. The water temperature at the surface is reported at around 58 degrees.
El Capitan is now open on its winter schedule, open for fishing Thursday through Monday weekly. Water contact activities (wakeboarding, water skiing, jetskiing, etc…) are allowed on Sundays only. The lake is completely closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Boat rentals are no longer available at El Capitan this season.
