Fishing this weekend has been the cat’s meow. Channels and blues have moved to deeper water and regained their appetites. Lots of quality cats over 4 lbs.. Topwater bass action showed a modicum of improvement but it is early and late.

The Best Trout Spots: None

Best Trout Lures / Bait: None

Best Cat Spots: Both the dam and the Hermit Cove buoy lines.

Best Cat Bait: Shrimp or mackerel. Use scent liberally.

Best Bass Spots: Dawn and dusk tight on the bank. Daylight finds them in 20 to 30 ft. off the points chasing shad.

Best Bass Lures /bait: 4” Pink worms dropshotted or 16” BIG worms Texas rigged. # 13 Rapalas, Pop R’s.

Water Temp. 80 to 82 degrees

Notables:

  • Fri., Victor Gonzales, San Diego, 24-8 blue cat, mackerel, Hermit Cove.
  • Sat., Lonnie Carpenter, Imperial Beach, 14-8 channel, mackerel, buoyline.
  • Sat.,Dan Heiser, El Cajon, on the same sweetspot as last week’s 14-8 blue nailed a pair of 8-0 channels, mackerel, buoy line.

Prognosis: We return to our ½ hr. before sunrise to ½ hr. after sunset schedule Open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This week it is 6 AM until 7:45 PM. We will stock catfish one last time for the season on September 18th. Historically the catfish and bass bite better in the Fall and Guess what? We have started our Fall bite. The first trout plant will be October 22nd.
