Trout- Slow.

Bass- Slow.

Bluegills- Very good on pieces of night crawler and wax/red worms/ meal worms. Andrew Spurling of San Diego caught his limit using red worms below cabins.

Crappie- Slow.

Catfish- Very Good, lots of fish being caught on chicken liver and mackerel, and night crawlers area below cabins still productive.

  • Stuart Baldino of Descanso caught a 5 lb. Channel Cat on nightcrawlers near Paradise Island.
  • Lanny McCay of San Diego caught 3, 3 lb. Channel Cat on mackerel at the north end.
  • Cody McCay of San Diego caught 2, 2 lb. Channel Cats also near the north end.

NOTE-No open flames allowed during ‘Red flag warnings’

Be sure to bring your catch into the Ranger Station to weigh and record your fish. This helps park staff keep track of the fish population and you may also get your name in the local paper! The maximum creel limit for trout, bass or catfish is five fish per person. Limits for crappie and bluegill are 25 per angler. There is no ‘catch and release’ of trout. Bass must be at least 12” long to keep.

The lake is open daily for fishing and boating. Park hours for fishing and day use are ½ hour before sunrise to ½ hour after sunset. No swimming at Lake Morena Park. Motorboats and rowboats are available for rent Wednesdays thru Sundays. Motorboats rent for $35. Rowboats rent for $15.00. (Must have own motor) Our boat ramp will accommodate vessels up to 18’ long. Watch out for submerged rocks!

For daily fishing updates, call Lake Morena’s recorded fishing line at (619) 478-5473. A valid California Fishing License is required (not sold at the park), in addition to the lake’s daily Fishing permit available at the Lake Morena Ranger Station.
