Rising water levels from recent rain have improved launching conditions at several of the City Lake Reservoirs, but probably have adversely affected the fishing. Notable catches from the past week include a 49.7 pound Blue Catfish from San Vicente caught by John Harwell of Encinitas. The largest bass of the week came during the Aim Marine Sunday Series tournament at San Vicente. Danny Price caught a 10.55 pound largemouth in the North Bay area of San Vicente on the 13th on a carolina rig.
Barrett
Barrett is closed for fishing.
El Capitan
150 anglers at El Capitan reported 147 bass up to 4.51 pounds, 12 crappie, and 3 channel catfish. The best bet for bass would be to fish crawdad imitations such as jigs or fat ikas on rock outcroppings on the lake.
El Capitan is now open on its winter schedule, Thursdays through Mondays are open for general boating and fishing. Water contact activities are now permitted on Sundays only. On Thursday, Friday, and Monday permits must be purchased from the iron ranger pay station. El Capitan is renting boats on Saturdays and Sundays only.
Hodges
Hodges is currently closed for fishing, and will reopen on February 6th on a Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday schedule
Miramar
105 anglers reported 6 bass and 66 rainbow trout. There were no notable catches reported. Trout are schooling up in the middle of coves.
Miramar is open for fishing and boating seven days a week. The road access across the dam is open and patrons can walk across the dam and all the way around the lake.
Murray
63 fisherman reported 5 bass and 45 rainbow trout. There were no notable catches reported.
Murray is open for fishing and boating severn days a week.
Upper & Lower Otay
There was no fish reports for either Upper or Lower Otay this week. Both lakes are open on a Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday schedule. Upper Otay is catch and release only, no bait at Upper Otay, only artificial lures with barbless hooks. Otay is not renting boats during the winter season and permits must be purchased from Iron Ranger Pay Stations. The access road to Upper Otay is now closed to vehicles, but patrons can still walk in and fish. Lower Otay will begin renting boats again on February 6th.
San Vicente
206 anglers at San Vicente Reservoir reported catching 239 bass, 2 bluegill, 1 crappie, 8 channel catfish, and 3 blue catfish. Notable catches at San Vicente included a 49.7 pound blue cat hauled in by John Harwell and a 10.55 pound bass caught by Danny Price.
San Vicente is now open in its winter schedule. Saturdays are open for both fishing and water contact activities. Sundays are open for fishing and general boating only. Rental boats are available on both days. Due to construction, the shoreline from the launch ramp to the buoy line is closed to all activities.
Sutherland
Sutherland is currently closed, but will reopen for fishing and boating on Saturday, March 1st on a Friday, Saturday, and Sunday schedule.
