The National Bass West anglers concluded their season series at Lake Hodges on May 3rd. Mike Long, with the aid of Todd Holverson won his fifth straight San Diego team tournament. His current stretch of wins is probably one of the most impressive feats in San Diego team tournament history. Mike and Todd had a 5 fish limit weighing 19.70 pounds with the big fish of the tournament at 6.76 pounds to win and earn $3,950.
Behind them in second place was Bob Palashewski and Roger Gordon with 15.66 pounds. The father/son team of Randy and Trevor Field were 3rd with 14.84 pounds. Kevin Norling and Larry Wilson were fourth with 13.31 pounds and the third biggest bass of the tournament which weighed 5.52 pounds. Rounding out the top 5 was John and Jordan Kerr who had 12.97 pounds and the second largest bass at 5.59 pounds.
The Skeeter Boats and Aim Marine pro-staffers, John and Jordan won the Anglers of the Year title for the season, capping off a dominate season in NBW. They needed only a 19th place or better finish to secure the title.
John's season has been as equally impressive as what Mike has done lately. With one Angler of the Year title secured already, John is leading in two more series. He is leading the race in the American Bass Association with only one tournament remaining, and Jordan and him are leading the Aim Marine Sunday Series standings with two tournaments remaining. If John is able to hold on in those two series, it will be the second season in a row that he has captured 3 of the 4 total major team tournament titles in San Diego.
Last year he won the WON Bass, Aim Marine Sunday Series, and American Bass Association title.
Probably the only thing keeping him from the "grand slam" is that he "sat out" the first WON Bass event of the year, essentially elminating himself from the Angler of the Year title with partner Mike Long. Prior to this year, Mike Long and John Kerr had teamed up to win the last 6 WON Bass Angler of the Year titles.
