The 2008 US Open was a true testament of endurance and strength, physically and mentally. Between practice and the tournament, anglers spend upwards of eight plus days on the ever brutal Lake Mead, often fishing through thunderstorms to go for the top prize package of $150,000.
This year, the young gun Justin
Kerr came out on top, edging out western legend Gary Dobyns by just
under half a pound. Gary weighed in a limit daily, ultimately totaling
26.84lbs over the three day tournament, for which he received $19,500.
Justin, always a dangerous threat caught a total of 27.31 pounds over
the three day competition. His prize package includes $70,000 cash, a
Nitro Z-9 powered by a 250 Optimax Pro XS, and a F-150 from a local top
notch Ford Dealer- Paul Leader's El Cajon Ford.
Rounding out the top 3 was
SDFish's and Aim Marine Pro Staffer John Kerr out of Ramona, CA fishing
out of his Frank Toyota and Aim Marine wrapped Skeeter. The 2003 US
Open Champion collected $12,500 for his efforts, which included a big
fish check on day one for his 2.65lb Lake Mead Bass. His 15 fish total
over 3 days of competition was 25.38lbs.
