Guajome Lake MapGuajome is a lesser known and very small lake (approx. 4 surface acres) located forty miles north of San Diego in Oceanside. The lake is almost completely encircled with reeds, and offers minimal fishing areas. Better known as a recreational park for camping, hiking and picnicking, the lake is more of a bonus attraction to a family outing than a place to plan a serious fishing trip. From I-5 exit Hwy. 76 east, go 10 miles east to Guajome Lake Rd., turn south to lake entrance. From I-15 exit Hwy. 76 west, go 7 miles to Guajome Lake Rd.

Facilities and Camping Info

Guajome Park offers 35 campsites, including full RV hookups, a large picnic area, complete with tables and barbecues, a playground for the kids and bathrooms with showers. There are also nice hiking trails in and around the area. A "Nature Hike" is held on the first Saturday of every month at 10:00 a.m. To participate meet at the Ranger Station in the upper picnic area, in front of the campground. Learn about native plants, riparian areas, and enjoy one of the best birding areas in San Diego County. There are no facilities, including fish cleaning stations or concessions at the lake.

Hours and Fees

The park is open year around for fishing, camping and hiking. Camping reservations can be made by calling the San Diego County Parks and Recreation Dept. at (877) 565-3600 . No permits are required to fish the lake, however a valid state fishing license must be in possession at all times for anglers over 15. Campsites are $16/night with hookups, extra vehicles are $2/night and dogs are $1/night. There is an 8 person limit per campsite, and a 14-day limit. Campsites can accommodate vehicles up to 45 feet long, there are 4 sites available for larger vehicles.

Boating Info

Private boats are not allowed, there are no rentals available.

Fishing Information

Due to limited shoreline access, fishing at this lake is minimal. Bass, bluegill, catfish.
