Dixon Lake Trout season will officially open November 7, with 4500 pounds of Rainbow Trout. The trout will be coming from the Chaulk Mound Trout Ranch. The hatchery is located in Bridgeport, Nebraska. So start dusting off those trout rods and put on some fresh line. Light line is highly recommended in the 2-4 pound range with 18-24 inch leader if using heavier line. Best choices of baits would be Rainbow color Power bait, Kastmaster or Thomas Buoyant lures and the good ol’ night crawler as a standby.

The bass action has been steady over the past week. Bass anglers are having success with plastics from the Boat Dock Cove area and Pier #3. Several anglers reported to the Rangers catching and releasing 10-12 bass in Trout Cove with their largest one weighing in at 6 pounds. Another unknown bass angler reported catching a 10 pound bass off of Pier #3. No names were provided at the time of this report.

Since night fishing has come and gone, the best chances for the cats are early mornings and late evening hours. Try the deeper portion of the lake and at the Buoy line. The best baits have been cut mackerel and shrimp. The cats have been in the 1-2 pound range with some larger fish in the 2-4 pound range thrown into the mix. The LAST STOCK of the season was planted on August 28, with 2000 pounds of catfish.

Due to construction of a new ramp, fishing Pier #1 will remain closed until further notice.
