After a hot bite for cats on Friday night we thought we were in for a
great weekend of fishing. We were wrong. The rest of the weekend was a
bust. The hottest spot was Hermit Cove. There were a lot of limits but
all the fish were between 1 and 2 lbs. No biggies were reported. The
bass bite was also lackluster. Both at the surface and deep. Average
was 1 bass per rod.
Best Cat Spots: Hermit Cove, and any of the coves in the brush. Use 20 lb test and horse them out of the cover.
Best Cat Bait: Night crawlers and mackerel. Use scent liberally.
Best Bass Spots: Dropshotting Sentry and Eagle Points in 25 to 30 ft. Topwater at the bank
Best Bass Lures /bait: Dropshotting 4” worms. Frogs and Pop-R’s.
Water Temp. Still 72 to 73 degrees on surface.
Notables: No fish over 3 lbs. reported but 14 yr.old Brandon Valenzuela, Calexico, 1-8 blegill/red ear hybrid, Cloister Cove.
Prognosis: Remember that we do not open until 5 PM on Friday. We are open all day July 4th 5:30 AM until Midnight.
The Lake Jennings Free Fishing University will be teaching cat fishing
