San Diego Bay 1/10/09 1 Year, 6 Months ago
I got an invite the other day to go fishing for my birthday by Mr. James Nelson. We decided to meet up at 6 A.M. and Launched out of J Street. The water was high and the Moon was still out

Had the boat in the water and were motoring out by 6:30. Isn't it amazing how different the day is in just 30 minutes

James Started off the action with this little guy

Between the both of us we landed about 40 of these, all released, I managed 5 short Halibut the largest one going about 16". Each one I caught went up in size but I could not find the mother ship. James has some of those photos on his camera that he'll be sending to me soon.

We moved up the bay and on the way we saw Scott(Fomen) entertaining some buddies with some fish. Nice seeing you out there Scott.

James and I had a double hook up shown below

You can't see it too well but that is a or was a TJW, great bait, I got two fish like this one on it before the bottom claimed it.

James hooked into the heaviest of all catches today

It put up a great fight and moved the boat a great distance when the fight was over here was the landed beast.

We ended the day at about 2 P.M. it was a wonderful day with a lot of fish caught and released. No matter how bad your day may be going just think you could be doing this for a living

You can't see too well, but there are 8 of our hard fighting soldier hanging from that rope. God Bless the men and women of the armed forces for rishing their lives for us.

It was a great day fishing, seeing how tomorrow is my Birthday, I couldn't ask for a better day out on the water, well I could ask for a legal Halibut, but I'm sure that will happen soon.

The Bay is on Fire, if you have a chance get out and catch some of the flames.

Yeah it was.

Dude, I had a blast. It was fun getting to fish. My computator is acting up again, I'll get the rest of the pics, and report done later.

Happy Birthday Jimmy.

If the bay is on fire, I MUST have the extinguisher. 30 fish between 3 guys is a slow day for me (which was my final tally on Saturday). At one point the tide was ripping so fast that i was resetting the drift every 60 seconds. I tried using my drift sock but the tide was moving it along the surface faster than my boat was moving- rendering it useless. I can say one thing however- Strike King Zulu lures ROCK THE HOUSE! I used one of them ALL DAY LONG. It took unbeleivable abuse, and kept going strong. So much so that I packed it away at the end of the day in expectation for useage another day. I was using a Redfish Magic Zulu in "Space Guppy" color. That color ROCKS! If chartreus is the go-to color for the bay- these are the baits for you. They also float, making them perfect for the dropshot presentation. All the fish I caught were quality spotties. Not one under 14 inches. It's easier to hijack your post than trow up my own Jimmy. :P

Hey Scott - I see no hi-jacking, I see a brother adding to a report for the same day.;) I'll have to pick up some of those Zulus, now that I have $50 to spend at BPS I'll be placing an order soon.;)

James - It was a great day on the water, and I too had a blast. I felt bad though because there was a time where I thought I was going to out fish you, but you took care of that.:silly:

Tricks - man those TJW are great, I on my first cast I was ust getting the feel for the bait and got a couple of bumps. On the second cast was when the bait got nailed. I'm going to be ordering some more of those.

My best working bait for the day was a Gulp Pearl White Mullet with a lead head on it. Each cast with this thing got nailed. I picked up 5 Halibut in a small area on the same bait.

The bay is on Fire Scott, but that Tide change was huge and it played a big part in the bite at one point. James and I noticed that once the sun came out, the bite picked up.

How many trips do you make per year on one of the local sportfishing boats?
