Sdfish party, BBQ, and fishing derby .

Saturday. Feb 13th at Lake Murray.

This is a classic Batfest* style SDFish party. I plan on bringing full sized gas BBQ. I will get there early and set up in the area between the ramp and the fishing dock. I can claim more space if others will join me in getting there early. This is a family friendly event, however casual debauchery is expected and encouraged. There will be food, prizes, and a light-hearted fishing contest. YOU are welcomed to attend. There is parking and bathrooms near the party area. The lake does not charge to BBQ, but fishing permits cost like $8. I will likely bring my boat to make some bass runs between pig out sessions. There are trout, bass, panfish, catfish, and carp all within easy reach of the shore.

*Batfest is what we used to call these exact same types of parties when we held them at Mission bay. Typically we would have 30-50 people show up. We can discuss at this party when to hold the next saltwater Batfest.

FOOD- It wouldn’t make sense for everyone to bring enough food for 50 people. I think the standard rule of thumb for potlucks is to bring double what you plan to eat? If you can bring some food or drinks, great. If you can bring some extra to share, even better. Please do.

PRIZES- We will have a prize pile, but this is not a sponsored event. We will rely on our own contributions. I’ve got some line, some lures, some stickers, and some Unibutter. I know Kellen’s got some stuff too. If you have anything you can throw in the pile, please bring it. Grab bags are welcomed and appreciated, throw a few random plastic worms from your collection in a ziplock and throw them in the pile if you can. Everybody likes free plastic worms!!

DERBY- The prizes for the fishing contest will be limited to fish caught from shore in the immediate vicinity of the party. This is NOT the main focus of the party. This is NOT a professional bass tournament and is geared toward children and lawn chair jockeys(like myself). Top honors will be the biggest fish of the day of any species. Children 12 and under will get their fish's weight multiplied by 5(maybe even 10). If we get enough prizes perhaps we can break them up into smaller piles and have more categories like; Children only, bass only, etc. We’ll have to see... There is always the possibility of a raffle. Just understand that the swag goes with the party. You can’t show up at the end of the day with a cell phone picture of a fish you caught on the other end of the lake and say, “Where’s my prize?”

If any of the more serious bassin guys want to bring their boats/tubes and have real bass tourney on the side, I suggest doing so and coming to the party afterward. Now hear this; if I catch a bigger bass than you, from the shore while partying with the family and BBQing, I will never let you live it down.

I've never really freshwater bass fished before... May just have to show up and try :)

i'll mosy on down to the murr for that it sounds fun. i'll personally give someone 10$ if they catch a bass bigger than 4lbs in feburary. anyway i would be gald to get there early and help set up for this so just keep me posted.
