Twenty-two teams of bass fisherman gathered at El Capitan on Saturday to compete for a cause - each team donating $100 to a single mother battling cancer, Carrol Morrison. The sub-plot was the tournament competition, in which Kevin Norling and Justin Hanold beat 21 other teams on Saturday with a 5 bass limit weighing 16.63 pounds. Their winning bag was topped by the tournament's largest fish, a 5.24 pound "kicker."

Kevin and Justin took home a little over $1,200 in total for the win. Almost three pounds behind them was the 2009 National Bass West Anglers of the Year, Tom Leedom and Brian Kowalski who brought in a 5 fish limit totaling 13.70 pounds. Third place went to Shane Spencer and Trevor Reis with a limit weighing 8.94 pounds.

Tom Lowery and Alan Clowers, who came up with the idea for the event, finished in fourth place with 8.70 pounds. Rounding out the top 5 was Brian Hess and Randy Lewis with 8.41 pounds. 

Over $3,000 from the entry fees and raffle was raised for Carrol Morrison (shown to the left with friend Alan Clowers), a single mother of two who was recently diagnosed with cancer. That money will help ease some of the financial burden being placed on Carrol while she is unable to work while fighting the disease. 

Mike and Lynne Peterson of National Bass West organized the tournament after Alan Clowers brought forth the idea. Mike and Lynne were unable to attend because of a prior arrangement of hosting a tournament in Northern California, but were instrumental in holding the tournament.

Lynne solicited National Bass West's San Diego Region Director, Dave Seaberg to direct the tournament.
