NBW El Cap 10-31-09 033 [800x600].JPGThe father and son team of Don and Donnie Riese beat 43 other teams at El Capitan on Saturday to win the first National Bass West San Diego tournament of the season. Their 13.23 pound limit of 5 bass included the tournament's largest bass at 3.49 pounds to make it a perfect sweep of the available option and purse money. Their winnings totaled $3,670 on the day.

The Rieses were probably sweating bullets most of the day after a livewell mishap early on in the tournament. While adding one of their smaller keepers to their livewell one of, if not the largest fish in their livewell executed a daring escape and jumped from the livewell onto the back deck and then back into the lake. As it turned out that fish would prove to only test their nerves and not cost them the win, or even any of the tournaments prize money.

Brian Hess and Randy Lewis finished a little less than a pound off the top spot in second place with a total weight of 12.31 pounds to win $1,465 on the day. Third place went to Jim Hallauer and Frank Morrin who had 11.59 pounds for their biggest 5 earning $1,330.

Cameron Rodriguez and Robert Faaborg Jr. finished in fourth place with a limit totaling 11.33 pounds. Rounding out the top 5 was the 2008/2009 NBW Anglers of the Year, Tom Leedom and Brian Kowalski who had 11.05 pounds.

Wade Strelic and Wes Zimmerman ahd the second biggest bass of the tournament, a 3.29 pounder to earn $760 in option money. The third biggest bass went to Johnson and Sapp with a 3.2 pound fish that netted them $260.

The next National Bass West team tournament is scheduled for December 12th at El Capitan. Full results can be found below, as well as photos taken by Regina Seaberg.
