Picture 212.jpgCaptain Greg Miser of the Dolphin II is reporting steady catches of Albacore, and the occasional Bluefin Tuna on his recent 1.5 and 2 day trips. Complimenting the increasingly good tuna fishing is good results of "home guard" Yellowtail in the kelp. Albacore in the 30 to 40 pound range are beginning to show recently, and Miser is optimistic about two upcoming trips on the schedule.

If you have been anxious to experience the world-famous Albacore fishing in San Diego, now might be the perfect time to book a trip and beat the crowds. The Albacore are still for the most part, out of range of private skiffs, but well within comfortable fishing distance for the 1.5 day sport-fishers like the Dolphin II.

Miser has two trips in particular penciled out that should provide great results, the first being a 1.5 day trip leaving this Saturday, June 27th at 10:00 pm. He'll be targeting the Albacore and Bluefin primarily, and looking for Yellowtail on kelp along the way. That trip costs $225 per person, which includes your Mexican Fishing Permit as well.

The Dolphin II will also be running an open-party July 4th special, a two-day trip leaving Friday July 3rd at 10:00 pm. This trip will target offshore Albacore and Bluefin and should produce great results for anglers. The cost for this trip is $395 per person and includes the Mexican Fishing Permit and all meals.

Picture 210.jpgIf you're new to sport fishing, or just want to make sure you're bringing along the right gear to have the most successful trip possible, Captain Greg suggests the following tackle and gear for these two trips;

  • 25 lb rod and reel outfit
  • An additional 40 lb outfit if you desire a second option
  • #2 and 2/0 live bait hooks
  • Small rubber-core sinkers
  • A change of clothes (a pair of shorts and jeans ideal, extra socks and shirts)
  • Rubber boots or at least a pair of comfortable tennis shoes
  • Hat
  • Sunscreen
  • Towel for showering
  • Personal toiletries

If you would like to troll between stops Greg recommends;

  • 60 or 80 lb trolling outfit
  • Zuker Trolling Feathers (Dark colored for the AM and white has been working during the day)
