Fish Reports
San Diego affords anglers some of the best fishing opportunities available, but knowing what lakes are hot and which are not is crucial in planning a successful fishing trip. Below you'll find fish reports from local lakes in San Diego, as provided by the lakes themselves to help you decide where to fish. You can also find up to date and detailed fish reports from our members in our Message Forums.

Lake Skinner Fish Reports

farberbass.jpgQuoting several bass fishermen this past week, the bass "fishing was phenomenal!" Several fishermen reported catching up to 27 nice size bass all in one day. Most of the fish are averaging around the 3 lbs mark, but many in the 5-6 lbs range are showing up as well. Dark plastics fished along the bottom are still producing the most and the biggest fish. East End and the South Shore are the hot spots for the bass, and those walking the shore are finding some decent luck along the shore from Marina Point to Social Security Point. I must take this chance to thank all of those fishermen who are practicing catch and release, most of those I talked to have released their fish for future generations.

The trout bite was excellent if you were in a few select spots. It was horrible if you were not. The bass bite slowed. A lot of bass were on the bank but crystal clear water gave them lockjaw unless you used 4 to 6 lb. test. The better bite was in 20’ to 30’ ft of water dropshotting purple and pink worms. Cats are starting to be caught under the bird trees.

While last week showed a 32 pound striper, this week the top was only a 8 pounder caught near the dam off of chicken liver.  Striper action slowed somewhat as the weekend came. Most of those striper reported were small schoolies and most seemed to be holding in the deeper waters near the dam and the inlet.  Chicken liver seems to be the top bait, but fishermen reported luck on anchovies as well.  Bass action took a small step back as well.

The trout fishing, this weekend, was as bad as it was good last weekend. The bass fishing was also spotty. Almost no visible fish on the beds but lots of cruisers. Cats are being caught all over the place, deep and shallow. It seems that chicken livers were the main course.

mchugh_7.25_03142010.jpgLots of Limits! Fishing was very good this week, if you don't want big fish. Many quick limits of trout were taken in both boats and on the shoreline. The best spots were on the other side of the Lake, and near Jump Off Point. The bass bite is mostly small ones, the bite should pick up in about 10 days as spawning approaches. The catfish bite is great near Boulder Bay. The bluegill bite is slow. The water temperature is at 57 degrees.
