Fish Reports
San Diego affords anglers some of the best fishing opportunities available, but knowing what lakes are hot and which are not is crucial in planning a successful fishing trip. Below you'll find fish reports from local lakes in San Diego, as provided by the lakes themselves to help you decide where to fish. You can also find up to date and detailed fish reports from our members in our Message Forums.

chris.jpg The Trout bite is steady in lakes 2, 3 and 4. Try rainbow powerbait and nightcrawlers. Use a short leader 6 to 8 inches and 2 or 4 lb. test line. Tagged fish are still swimming in the lakes worth cash and prizes. Catch a Trout 5 lbs. or larger and get entered into the April 1st drawing for the Vizio Flat Screen TV. The last Trout stock for the Season will arrive this week. 1,000 lbs. of Sierra Rainbows will be split between lakes 3 and 4.

HunterStriper.jpgThe striper bite is officially back with the top fish coming in over 32 pounds.  Chicken Liver and Anchovies are producing smaller striper near the dam and the inlet as well as a few in the East End and some from the shore at Ramp #2 and the Marina Point.  The bigger boys have come in off of big lures, and trout colors seem to be the ticket.  The bass are also hitting hard as they are moving into the shallows and are getting aggressive.  The bass are hitting worms, both plastic and real.  East End and the South Shore are the best spots, however shore fishermen are finding them west of Marina Point as well as along points near Ramp #2.

Oshinski Grand Prize 03072010.JPGRainy Weather! Fishing was very good this week if you wanted a limit but did not care about size. Many quick limits of trout were taken in both boats and on the shoreline. The best spots were on the other side of the Lake, and near Jump Off Point. The bass bite is mostly small ones, the bite should pick up in another week or so as spawning approaches. The catfish bite was great near Boulder Bay. The bluegill bite is slow. The water temperature is at 57 degrees.

The trout fishing is the best of the year. Cactus Patch, Eagle Point and Shadow Cove produced limits. Trolling has been poor but chucking silver Kastmasters in those spots have also been productive. The bass are definitely staging. A few are in shallow looking but not on nests.

This past week we finally saw a improvement in the striper bite. While the bit is far from hot, there have been an increase in the numbers landed, and some are hitting on artificial as well as bait. Deep waters near the dam and the inlet remain the best spots, but a few striper have been caught from shore near Ramp #2 as well as the Marina Point. As far as bait goes chicken liver seems to be the best still. Those looking for some lure action may want to try a swimbait or rattle trap.

Night crawler night crawler where to find the night crawlers? If you’re a trout fisherman this is the question you should be asking because if you don’t have a night crawler on a hook chances are your missing out on the good times. Anglers are catching limits within an hour to an hour in a half on night crawlers whether they have an air injection or not.

The trout fishing was greatly improved Friday. The same for Saturday for those who did not mind getting wet. Sunday, the bite remains good in all the standard places. It is a bait bite only. Trolling is marginal. Even though we have stopped filling the lake the bass remain scattered and fussy… No one has seriously targeted the cats.
