Shore anglers and boaters have been nailing big bass this week.
Carolina rigged worms and creatures, senkos, ikas and the drop shot
remained great bass baits. The best colors for plastics are watermelon,
green pumpkin, and dark purples. The swimbait bite is still producing.
Huddlestons and LA Sliders and BBZ’s were the best big baits lately.

DVL bass fishing is definitely the epitome of southern
California bass fishing. No lake can compare to the wide open bass
status of DVL. Bass are waging an all out attack on the shad leading to
an excellent, crank bait, scrounger, and underspin bite. Bass will bite
non stop on the drop shot with morning dawn, tequila sunrise, and
hologram shad 4” worms or Carolina rigged reapers in shad colors. The
upcoming trout plant will bring out the big bass so get out your big
baits. Jeff Alley of Palm Desert caught his two biggest bass at 4
pounds fishing with a Sluggo. Mark Knoop caught a 5 pound bass fishing
with crank baits.

Shad baits are the way to go for DVL bass. Flukes fished with
scroungers or underspins, small cranks, and ice jigs are the most
reported baits. Shad jerkbiats and shallow running cranks are great for
the early morning bite. Carolina rigged reapers were also working great
this week. Most reports have bass holding between 25 and 35 feet.

DVL bass are feeding on shad, so try your best to match the hatch.
Flukes fished with scroungers or underspins, small cranks, and ice jigs
are prime choices. That is not to say that the drop shot, Carolina rig,
swimbaits, Lil’Georges, and spinner baits did not account for some
great catches this week. Bring an arsenal of gear if you want the best
results. Most reports have bass between 20 and 40 feet on main lake
points.

It was a big week for big striper at DVL. Shad bates and swimbaits work
the best right now. The west side of the lake and Rawson cove are the
best spots. Nhan Doan of Moreno Valley caught his biggest 3 stripers at
13, 12, and 21 pounds fishing with topwater lures.
