Shore anglers and boaters have been nailing big bass this week. Carolina rigged worms and creatures, senkos, ikas and the drop shot remained great bass baits. The best colors for plastics are watermelon, green pumpkin, and dark purples. The swimbait bite is still producing. Huddlestons and LA Sliders and BBZ’s were the best big baits lately.

DVL bass fishing is definitely the epitome of southern California bass fishing. No lake can compare to the wide open bass status of DVL. Bass are waging an all out attack on the shad leading to an excellent, crank bait, scrounger, and underspin bite. Bass will bite non stop on the drop shot with morning dawn, tequila sunrise, and hologram shad 4” worms or Carolina rigged reapers in shad colors. The upcoming trout plant will bring out the big bass so get out your big baits. Jeff Alley of Palm Desert caught his two biggest bass at 4 pounds fishing with a Sluggo. Mark Knoop caught a 5 pound bass fishing with crank baits.

Shad baits are the way to go for DVL bass. Flukes fished with scroungers or underspins, small cranks, and ice jigs are the most reported baits. Shad jerkbiats and shallow running cranks are great for the early morning bite. Carolina rigged reapers were also working great this week. Most reports have bass holding between 25 and 35 feet.

DVL bass are feeding on shad, so try your best to match the hatch. Flukes fished with scroungers or underspins, small cranks, and ice jigs are prime choices. That is not to say that the drop shot, Carolina rig, swimbaits, Lil’Georges, and spinner baits did not account for some great catches this week. Bring an arsenal of gear if you want the best results. Most reports have bass between 20 and 40 feet on main lake points.

It was a big week for big striper at DVL. Shad bates and swimbaits work the best right now. The west side of the lake and Rawson cove are the best spots. Nhan Doan of Moreno Valley caught his biggest 3 stripers at 13, 12, and 21 pounds fishing with topwater lures.
