The trout season here at Dixon Lake
has been excellent the past several
weeks. It has been an exciting week
with the largest rainbow trout
weighed in this year. Local angler,
J.P. Torres of Escondido, pulled in a
“picture perfect” rainbow that tipped
the scales at an even 9 lbs. on Atlas
eggs in Catfish Cove.

Dixon Lake’s 30th Annual Trout Derby was a huge success over the
Veteran’s Day weekend with lots of BIG FISH caught in the 6 to 8-pound
range. The dates for this year’s derby were November 8 to 11. This
year’s Grand prize winning trout weighed in 7.5 pounds and was caught in
Trout Cove on a power worm.

Dixon Lake Trout season will officially open November 7, with 4500
pounds of Rainbow Trout. The trout will be coming from the Chaulk
Mound Trout Ranch. The hatchery is located in Bridgeport, Nebraska. So
start dusting off those trout rods and put on some fresh line. Light line is
highly recommended in the 2 to 4-pound range with 18 to 24-inch leader if
using heavier line.
