The
striper bite is officially back with the top fish coming in over 32
pounds. Chicken Liver and Anchovies are producing smaller striper near
the dam and the inlet as well as a few in the East End and some from the
shore at Ramp #2 and the Marina Point. The bigger boys have come in
off of big lures, and trout colors seem to be the ticket. The bass are
also hitting hard as they are moving into the shallows and are getting
aggressive. The bass are hitting worms, both plastic and real. East
End and the South Shore are the best spots, however shore fishermen are
finding them west of Marina Point as well as along points near Ramp #2.

This past week we finally saw a improvement in the striper bite. While
the bit is far from hot, there have been an increase in the numbers
landed, and some are hitting on artificial as well as bait. Deep waters
near the dam and the inlet remain the best spots, but a few striper
have been caught from shore near Ramp #2 as well as the Marina Point.
As far as bait goes chicken liver seems to be the best still. Those
looking for some lure action may want to try a swimbait or rattle trap.

Striper action remained slow this past week despite a 17 pound striper
that was landed this past Tuesday. Trout continue to be stocked, the
weather is still cool, yet the striper seem to be hard to find. The few
that have come in are being caught in deep waters for the most part,
more being caught by bait than by lure.

While the striper bite was not as bad as last week, striper fishing
still is far from on here at Lake Skinner. A few more fish showed up on
stringers this past week, but almost all were caught down deep, around
50 feet or more, and anglers who did find them worked them all day just
to produce a few fish. Best bet for the average fisherman is to bait
fish chicken liver up off the bottom near the dam or inlet.

As most of you are well aware of, the storms came through So. Cal. this
past week. We got our rain, we got our water level up and we got cooler
temperatures the only thing we did not get was a return of the striper
bite. To be fair we are reporting really on two days worth of fishing,
but the newest reports are that the striper are more or less still a no
show.

Well the cooler weather never really showed, and the striper bite
remained almost non-existent. Few fishermen reported any linesides this
past week, most of those who did report any said they got them off of
chicken liver bottom fishing near the dam. The good news is that this
is also the best method to catch the catfish this time of the year
which some fishermen did get.

This current heat wave that has given Southern California great weather
has also all but killed off the striper fishing. Striper fishing is
slow all over the lake from what many fishermen are reporting. With the
temperature being warmer, mixed in with the water level dropping,
striper have been deep and not too many are seeing them. Some are
finding them trolling deep with swimbaits and rattle traps, while
others are picking up a few bait fishing anchovies and chicken liver
deep near the dam and the inlet.

Striper and trout remain the strongest action here at Lake Skinner.
Reports are that the striper are mostly being caught near Ramp #2 or
the Inlet and that most of their stomachs are filled with shad. Morning
bite is still the best for striper, however boat action is still the
best as few striper have been reported coming in from the shore.

Although the beginning of the week started out rather slow, with few fish to speak of, the later half of the week picked back up for most of the fishermen. Striper have been the main draw here at the lake for the past few weeks, and they continue to be the most active fish on the lake. Morning hours are the best, and the bigger fish are still coming in off of artificial lures and most of that being top water.

The
best way to begin a fish report is to be able to say that this past
week we had a 15.9 lbs striper caught near the Ramp #2 Area from a
boat. While most of the striper were not this size, several in the 4
to 5 pound rang were caught as the weather continues to cool the water.
Striper are hitting chicken liver and cut anchovies, but most for the
larger fish are all coming in off of artificial baits. Jerk baits, top
water, rattle traps, swim baits and even jigs seem to be perking the
striper interest.
