Going into Sunday's season finale in the American Bass Association San Diego Region, John Kerr and Buck Buckhanan knew the pressure was on them to have a great finish. Without the help of the teams behind them stumbling, they needed a second or better to take matters into their own hands. They sat only two points ahead of second-place Cameron Smith and Chuck Lavigne.

Buck Buckhanan and John Kerr go into the final tournament of the 2009 series in the points lead, one tournament away from successfully defending their 2008 title. In fact, John and Buck have been clearly the most dominant team in the series for the last 4 seasons, having won the points title 3 of those years in 2005, 2007, and 2008 (Mike McLernon and Jeff Wilkey tied Rick Wilson and Chuck Miller that year - John and Buck were third).

Cameron Smith and Chuck Lavigne topped an experienced field to take top
honors Sunday at Otay. The lake had been hammered the day before with
125 boat permits issued according to lake staff. Six or seven local and
LA Clubs had tournaments there on Saturday.

Dave Brantley and Jeff Riley bested 32 other teams to take the first
ABA tournament of 2009. It was an unusually warm winter day even for
San Diego. Fishermen were shedding their cold weather clothes they had
donned in anticipation of the cold east wind blowing off the SD
mountains.

There were 37 teams and 19 limits caught after a Saturday that saw the lake hammered by 4 or 5 club tournaments.
Congratulations to Mike Long for 1st and John Kerr and Buck Buckhanan for 2nd and Big Fish!
