The San Diego Saltwater Bass Showdown is a unique series which offers tournaments in Mission Bay, San Diego Bay, and Oceanside. Tournament director John Cassidy is an experienced freshwater bass tournament director in San Diego, and he brings that level of experience and professionalism over to the saltwater scene for this series.
Each tournament is formatted differently, the targeted species of fish changes with each tournament, as does the limit number. There is even a biggest halibut option offered at some of the tournaments.

The Saltwater Showdown will run a Calico Turkey shoot-out out of the Shelter Island Launch Ramp Sunday June 14th.

The dates are not finalized yet, as Cassidy is inviting anglers to bring forth concerns of conflicts before firming it up. Tom Buckalew and Brett De Long (Team Quantum) took home first place
honors for the third annual San Diego Saltwater Bass Showdown finals
held on San Diego Bay last Sunday. The format of the finals was unique
in that all the 15 teams were sent out to catch one of each species of
bass they had been fishing for all season in the qualifying tournament
rounds. During the qualifying tournaments, the teams fished for spotted
bay bass in Mission Bay, sand bass off Oceanside Harbor, spotted bay
bass in south San Diego Bay and Calico Bass in San Diego Bay and
offshore. Now for the finals, their last challenge was to bring to the
scales one of each of the three species of fish they have been fishing
for all season.

The second stop for the 2008 San Diego Saltwater Bass Showdown was
Oceanside Harbor this past Saturday May 10, 2008. 21 teams from both
San Diego and Orange County fished the event with many teams coming out
from the Saltwater Bass Anglers circuit using the event for a tune-up
for their tournament the following weekend.

Tom Buckalew and Brett DeLong (Team Quantum) took first place honors in the initial edition for the 2008 San Diego Saltwater Bass Showdown Series Saturday afternoon on Mission Bay. The teams' five spotted bay bass limit weighed in at 10.38 pounds besting the field of 32 boater and kayak teams. Along with the second largest bass caught in the tournament award (2.71 pounds) this team took home a hefty $575 for their efforts. Most of the team's fish were caught on chartreuse/white and orange/brown spinnerbaits.
