San Diego Big Fish

Bonefish (Albula vulpes)

The bonefish is one of the most sought-after saltwater game-fish in the world, especially favored by fly fishing anglers. Typically, they are associated with shallow tropical inter-coastal waters in places like the bahamas. An increasing population of bonefish has taken hold in the shallow South Bay area of San Diego Bay. San Diego anglers began catching them as "incidentals" while fishing for other species. However, as awareness has increased about their whereabouts, and effective methods of catching them, several San Diego fisherman such as local guide James Nelson have been able to target them specifically. The most popular method for catching these exotics is to slowly drift live ghost shrimp on light line and spinning tackle from Glorietta Bay down to the South end of the San Diego Bay. rn
