  • Sutherland has stained water, shallow sloping shorelines, and is primarily a bass fishery. Crappie and catfish (both blue catfish and channel catfish) are also plentiful at Sutherland.

Currently with California’s drought, Sutherland is not even a shadow of its former self. What was once a sprawling lake is now a small and isolated pool. The launch ramp is currently out of service, and there are no boat rentals or concession services available at the lake.

Because of that, shore fishing, float tubing, and kayaking are the focus.

Sutherland is open seasonally, typically March through September and open for fishing on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday schedule during that time.

Daily fishing permits are required, see our “Lake Fees and Permits” page for updated rates. A California Sport Fishing License is required for all anglers 16 years of age and older.

Lake Sutherland is located at 22018 Sutherland Dam Road in Ramona, CA.
