25 year old lobster diver dies in Mission Bay

The pair was free-diving for lobsters near Mariner’s Point. The identity of the diver has not yet been released, and it is unclear what caused the pair to become separated.

Dive conditions on Tuesday night were considered “poor” at La Jolla which is just a few miles North of Mission Bay, with visibility there reported at less than 5 feet and a strong surge.

This accident comes less than a month after another diver was killed in San Diego waters. 48 year old Robert Michael Clampitt was found unresponsive in 100 feet of water on September 11th after he did not return to a chartered dive boat exploring the HMS Yukon, a wreck just off Mission Beach. Lifeguards attempted to resuscitate him, but he died on the beach.
