Bonefish biting in Big Bay for Captain James Nelson

Fish Reports - San Diego Bay Fish Reports

nelson-client-bonefishCaptain James Nelson took a time out from his guide trips to give us an update on the action at San Diego Bay. His last trip yielded 26 bonefish, 8 yellowfin croaker, 1 spotfin croaker and 2 halibut for his two anglers. On his other recent trips, targeting bass, he found calicos "chewing" shallow on crankbaits, spinnerbaits and swimbaits. Spotties were willing as well he said, "you can catch all the small spotties you want shallow south of the [Coronado] bridge, but the bigger ones are suspended over deep water." Nelson offered a tip to locating and catching those big spotties, "on the graph they look like schools of bait, and the lizards are there, but big baits like 1 oz spinnerbaits or deep diving crankbaits will separate the spotties from the lizards."
