CDFW announces local trout stocks for this week

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife announced planned trout plants for El Capitan Reservoir and Lake Murray this week. With the water temperatures rising within most lakes in the county, these are likely the last stocks for this year. Lower Otay, Miramar, Lindo, and Chollas have routinely been stocked along with El Capitan and Murray this winter by the CDFW, but they were not included in the latest schedule update.

Trout stocked last week at Miramar; bass still in spawning cycle

Bass are spawning, with mostly small male bass available to anglers, but if the timing is right anglers are presented the opportunity for a giant at Miramar. Another load of trout were stocked by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife last week. Those trout plants have stirred up the big bass, and provided an opportunity for anglers to catch them with large trout imitating swimbaits. Already this year, two bass over 16 pounds have come out of Miramar – the two biggest fish out of San Diego so far in 2014.
