Saltwater Fish Reports clowers-bluefin-august2013
Outer banks fish report from Captain Alan Clowers

Bluefin tuna, yellowtail and dorado are all on the chew and moving within 20 miles of Point Loma. I have been out fishing the outer banks; tuna pens, 1010, and the hidden banks for some real good action on the aforementioned bluefin, yellowtail and dorado. The bluefin are up to 75 pounds with most landing in the 40 pound class.

The kelp paddy fishing can be wide open on yellowtail once you find the right one. All fish are coming on fly-lined sardines on 30-50 pound test with fluorocarbon leaders.

MLPA process comes to an end, closures ‘approved’

The tip of Point Loma which will become a new State Marine Reserve in 2011The California Department of Fish and Game Commission gathered today to vote on the MLPA’s (Marine Life Protection Act of 1999) new state regulated conservation areas and reserves. Of the 5 commissioners, 3 voted in support of the initiative’s IPA (Integrated Preferred Alternative), a proposed outline of MPAs (Marine Protected Areas) that was unanimously recommended by an appointed Blue Ribbon Task Force in June. The slight majority vote puts an end to the heated battle over Marine Protected Areas in California’s South Coast. The process of the MLPA began more than a decade ago, culminating tonight for the South Coast with the adoption of the new reserves.
