2014 Tournament Angler Rankings [September]

0

We made a very small improvement to the formula used to calculate the ranking points, making this the most accurate rankings to date. August presented 3 good opportunities for anglers to move up the rankings with high-point awarding events; a 28 team field on August 23rd at Lower Otay for the SD Team Day Series, a 54 team field on August 2nd at Lower Otay for the SD Team Night Series, and a 45 team field for the prestigious San Diego Team Open at Lower Otay and El Capitan on August 11th and 12th.

  • For the 5th straight month, Kevin Norling leads Wade Strelic in our rankings. Mike Walsh moved back up to 3rd ahead of Frank Morrin in 4th. Trevor Lincoln, with 22 tournaments fished this year, vaulted his way up to 5th on the heels of his 2nd place finish in the San Diego Team Open, replacing Tom Leedom who fell out of the rankings.

Leedom’s absence of the rankings is not a reflection of performance, but he has fished only 8 of the included tournaments (he has fished 9 total, but due to a data loss at National Bass West, one of their tournaments is not able to be included). Look for Leedom to return to the rankings next month, as he is fishing the US Open which starts on August 8th at Lake Mead.

Chuck Miller and Geoff Pierce, who won the San Diego Team Open, both make their way solidly within the top 25 at 15 and 18 respectively.

    About the rankings

The SDFish.com Tournament Angler Computer Rankings are meant to quantify the success of an individual anglers tournament season. They are not based on opinion, or make any claim to decide who the best, or worst anglers are. They are based on an anglers’ performance, and their performance alone.

    Which anglers are considered?

All anglers who fish a minimum of 9 qualified local tournaments so far this season have been included for consideration, and the top 25 are posted above. The minimum is now set at 1/4th of the total amount (rounded up or down) of tournaments included to date. There were 35 tournaments included in these rankings, so 8.75 was rounded to 9.

    Which tournaments are considered?

    • 5 tournaments in the 2013/2014 National Bass West San Diego Region season (the March 8th tournament was not included, as no results are available due to a computer malfunction at National Bass West)
    • 6 tournaments in the 2014 American Bass Association San Diego Region season
    • 4 tournaments in the 2014 California Bass Federation Southern California Region season
    • 4 tournaments in the Anglers Marine Owners Invitational Series
    • FLW Western Series Pro/Am at Lake Havasu
    • FLW Western Series Pro/AM at the California Delta
    • 7 tournaments in the San Diego Team Series (Day) season
    • 5 tournaments in the San Diego Team Series (Night) season
    • Combined overall results from the San Diego Team Open

    How are the rankings formulated?

Each qualifying tournament is weighted based on the number of entries in the field. A proprietary formula awards points each finishing position for each individual angler (team tournaments score each angler independently) from the top down. Those points are then divided by the total number of tournaments an angler fishes, and a multiplier is applied to remove the decimals.

    2014 Season Rankings

Rankings will be updated throughout the year, and a new set of rankings will be published at the start of every month including all qualified tournaments from the start of the 2014 season (includes some tournaments from 2013) through the previous month. See our 2014 tournament schedule for a full list of tournaments that’ll be considered for the angler rankings, excluding the club level tournaments.
