The fishing at El Capitan has been good lately, with a good topwater bite emerging, breaking fish all over the lake at times, and a good reaction bite also on jerkbaits. There will be plenty of willing bass ready and waiting for a huge field on Saturday.
Their previous tournament at El Capitan this year drew the largest bass tournament crowd I can remember in San Diego with 93 teams! And there is a reason all these teams are showing up to support this trail – well, many reasons.
First and foremost, this tournament was designed as a way for Rick Grover, the owner of Anglers Marine, and his crew to show appreciation for the thousands of customers that have purchased boats at his dealership over the last 31 years. And with that in mind, he spares no expense and has truly invested into this tournament series. Each event features a 100% payback, an EXCELLENT free BBQ (tri tip) after the weigh in, and free on-the-water hotdog delivery for all competitors during the tournament.
Another reason for the success is that they’ve broken the tournament into 3 divisions; Masters, Rookie and Seniors/Family – a strategy that levels the playing field, giving new teams and families fishing together an opportunity to win without having to beat out the seasoned vets.
And, the big kicker of the series – Anglers Marine is giving away a 2016 Ranger Boat and Mercury Outboard package in a random drawing game for tournament contestants at their final event, which will take place on June 4th at Lake Havasu (must be present to win).
To be eligible for the tournaments, at least one angler from each team must have purchased a new or used boat (14′ in length or longer with a working livewell) from Anglers Marine in the last 31 years, and you must fish from that vessel during the tournament. There are literally thousands of people eligible for this event, so if you’re not an Anglers Marine customer yourself yet, phone a friend, chances are you know someone that is!
If you’re eligible, or know someone that is, you owe it to yourself to come out on Saturday and experience why there are more teams competing in this tournament trail than anything held in San Diego in decades!
There is still plenty of time to enter – they’ll draw numbers for blast-off order on Friday at noon, so get your entry in before that.
