San Diego Bay fishing great for all species right now

San Diego Bay is going off, and that might be an understatement. I fished with Vern and his grandkids on Saturday. We started out targeting bass on the incoming tide, and tallied 25 spotted bay bass in 1.5 hours. We then switched gears and went to “play” with the sharks.

  • As soon as we put the lines in the water we had a hookup on a nice leopard shark. We ended up adding 2 more leopard sharks, 3 guitarfish, 3 smoothhounds and a huge bat ray all packed into a half-day trip.

The bass came on Berkley Gulp! Shrimp with the sharks caught on dead squid and sardines. The other bay species are going really good as well; bonefish and halibut are biting about as good as it gets.

We found the water temp to be 74.2 on the surface, just perfect. The bay is unbelievable right now, and has been for some time. Now is a great time to book a trip and make some lifetime memories for you and the family.
