Launched at south shores in foggy conditions in grey light around 6a
Exited Mission Bay around 6:20a and the sun poked up just as we turned north.
Heavy fog bank over the bay and beach but clear skies and light wind in th ocean with a little bit of smoke on the water to the north.
High tide was at 6a. Very little current and just enough breeze to give us a nice slow drift.
Fished some rocks we had marked on prior trips all in the 100-135 ft zone all north of MB but south of La Jolla MLPA.
Had fantastic bottom fishing for a couple hours in that zone. Great variety of rockfish including, reds, olives, browns, and starries a couple tanker treefish and some sandbass, sculpin, sand dabs, bonito, jack macks, pacific Macs, and even a shark (smooth hound?)
Bite died off around 9:30a or 10a so we picked around a few deeper spots in the 200-250ft depth for a bunch more dinky rockfish but nothing of note.
Surprisingly no sheepshead even on rocks that have historically produced them for us.
All fishing was double dropper loop with only 6oz lead required.
All fish were caught on fresh frozen shrimp or fresh frozen squid or Bucktail or curly tail grub teasers.
Ended up taking home 2 reds and a starry, 3 of the nicer whitefish, and a sandbass and 2 tree fish. Had great whitefish Baja style fish tacos that night, sandbass ceviche on Sunday and likely grilled rockfish sandwiches on Monday.
Safely descended a lot of the rock fish but always end up inadvertently sacrificing a few to the gulls.
Didn’t take many pics but here are a few.

Thanks was a beautiful day. Lucky to get on ‘em after having not been fishing in out for a couple of months.

Yeah, both were around the same size. Largest I have ever caught, such cool fish. In retrospect should have got a weight on them.

You know the tree fish is massive when those bright pink colored lips are so stretched out they turn orange!
