    Hey Guys,

Had a good day here just south of San Diego in Ensenada. Went out to my usual spot and in the Estero of Ensenada with a few buddies. I hooked into this nice Halibut. It was a decent day with a few good Spotties and a couple small Halibuts. Then this guy came along. Sorry for the bad words in the video but I was excited. Plus I almost lost it pulling it up on the shore. Below are some photos and here is a link to the video as well. The video shows the fight, weighing, measuring and release. It's a short video with just that one catch. Hope you enjoy. Please follow me on Instagram @ensenadafishing and please subscribe if you like videos like these. I put one out just about every Wednesday. Big Legal Halibut Caught From Shore: 11+ Pounds And 32 Inches Long

I let her go. She was a female and I like to let all females over 3 kilos go so they can continue to reproduce. I use a slot limit and only take the ones that are 2-3 kilos and only males. The big females I always try to protect so our bay stays healthy and keeps producing. PS Best recipe for Halibut.... My wife breaks up Saltine crackers and uses those as the breading to fry them. Then she makes a creamy cilantro sauce with cilantro, lime, garlic and mayo to put on top. It's the best way to prepare them man. I promise.

I guess I should have showed that in the video. There are lots of parts edited out like when I am putting the fish back in the water various times so it's not too stressed, or checking the sex of the halibut. I just thought that was something people knew who targeted them. We have posted those videos in our fishing groups down here a lot to try and teach people to do the same, and so a lot of us practice that here to keep the females healthy, alive and reproducing.

Thanks for posting that bro, you saved me the time of finding it. It's definitely a good thing for people to know, and I guess I should have showed that in my video. That and other parts were edited out. Thanks for sharing it.

Over 20 years ago i took my wife and son to Estero Beach resort. I'll never forget they had a lion in a cage in the front of the hotel!! Anyway my son and I fished the beach in front of the hotel and i caught a large Halibut on a black and white swim bait. As i was releasing it (because i had no way of cleaning it or cooking it) a young boy asked if he could have it and of course i gave it to him. As we were going into town to fetch some tacos I saw him and his family in a roadside mobile home eating the halibut they waved and thanked me as we drove by!!
