There was a 16.1 pound bass caught at Skinner today by Ryan Block, which would break the 14.5 pound lake record set in April of 2012 by Chip Gilbert.

It sounds like there might be some controversy about whether or not the fish was caught in an area posted "no fishing" on the lake.

I don't know much more than that, I saw one photo but it wasn't great so I'm not going to post it here. I've asked for a better photo, we'll see what comes of it.

The fish is GIANT though, definitely every bit of 16 pounds.

If anyone knows anything, please do share.

Sweet, seems to be plenty of big bass coming along lately. Was it a spawn fish?

There is someone who claims to have witnessed it being caught within the buoys. I've reached out to them to try to hear their account, and also trying to get Ryan Block to contact me for his side to the story.

Just want to get the real scoop before I say anything about it.

I was up there yesterday (Sunday, 3/22) there were a couple boats pushing the limits on the no fishing zone. I did hear a lot of yelling at one point where a lake staff guy (younger short hair) kept yelling that a fish was caught in a no fishing zone and need to be released immediately. I was fishing the point just to the east of the launch ramp. There are always people trying to fish in the area especially when trout are / have been stocked since they get pushed up onto the launch ramp and the bass are just waiting to ambush the trout. I counted about 5 bass well over the 10#'s lurking outside the trout when retrieving the boat. Still a trophy bass to say the least.

I don't think that was the same fish. This angler says he had no run in with the lake staff, that it was weighed on the dock on their scale with them present, and that they suggested it would be the new lake record.

Reading between the lines of all the nonsense that was posted on Facebook today, its clear that the bass are spawning up near the boat dock right now in big numbers. And they're huge.

There is a good chance a bass bigger than this one will be caught up there this weekend with the warm weather.

i was there that day. but didnt see it for myself but heard he first caught with a swim bait and it broke in half resulting the bass fled. later he came back that day same spot and caught it with the half broken swim bait still stuck onto it's mouth. i wonder what swim bait he used.

I know what bait he used and the kind of fisherman block is...he's not gonna fudge some story for a lake record. That's not his style.
