Hey guys I am contemplating buying a truck similar or exactly the same as the title suggests and I was wondering if you guys had any input on the reliability of the engine and your thoughts.
    Thanks

I forgot to mention that the turbo was put on by the dealership when the guy bought the truck in 1989

7.3 L Navistar built by International was a a good engine they where built for tough service , Banks makes some good stuff if that is the vendor on the turbo , No fancy electronics no EGR ,Manual adjustable injection pumps , injectors are cheap when the wear out , glow plug system easy to diagnose . If you work on your own stuff this 7.3L or its 2 year older 6.9 L predecessor are the ones to own . The only major problems I remember were fuel leaks in the return system I replaced a lot of rubber line segments with steel lines . Guess the only question is how many times the odometer has gone around . If someone has kept up on the suspension ETC its probably still a good truck . At 30 years old things like door handle reinforcement areas in the doors , window tracks , shift columns ETC can be shot and hard to find parts for . Again if you have the skills to do the work sounds like a fun project . Good Luck !
