Pads open up the 2014 campaign in 12 days against the Dodgers at home.

Currently they're 6-11 in the Cactus League, second to last.

    Probable starting lineup for this year will be;

    Everth Cabrera, SS
    Will Venable, CF
    Chase Headley, 3B
    Carlos Quentin, LF
    Yonder Alonso, 1B
    Jeff Gyorko, 2B
    Seth Smith, RF
    Nick Hundley, C

Insert Cameron Maybin when hes healthy

    Probable rotation;

    Ian Kennedy
    Andrew Cashner
    Josh Johnson
    Tyson Ross
    Eric Stults

They haven't had a winning season since 2010...any reason to think that'll change this year?

Personally, I dont see Kennedy as the #1. Cashner is a clear cut #1 IMO. Those who have been following the Pads for sometime know what Ross is capable of and if Johnson can stay healthy we have a really heavy rotation that will produce a lot of strikeouts.

We will lose a lot of 2-1 games, I think. Our lineup hasnt changed much since last year and run production was our achilles heel so to speak. I hope that Alonso and Gyorko can give us the boost we need. Quentin wont play more that 90 games. He hasnt even touched 90 since being with the Pads. Hes a waste of money.

With another year under Gyorko's belt and Alonso expected to be healthy they will add another element to the team that we missed last year. Headley is already hurt and it doesnt look well for us. Pitchers figured him out, but I am really really hoping he has another marquis year.

Our bullpen is slightly concerning. Last year we were very dominant in that regard, I hope our recent acquisition, Tores, can get his stuff together and replace the lights out Gregerson.

I also wanted to add; I want to see Denorfia in the lineup more often. The guy gives 100% and statistically over a 162 game average has a lot better stats than some of our starters.

All in all, I am optimistic, perhaps overly optimistic. We all know it comes down to who stays healthy and who catches that 'lightning in a bottle'.

If you are a sports fan in San Diego it is important that you learn this phrase:

    "Wait 'til next year!"

Kennedy can not be our ace. Im hoping Cashner takes it. Our lineup is suspect like always. Cant find a hit when we need one. I really like the young guys Jed G and Yadier A. hopefully the pads pay those boys when its time. Sadly, I see us not making the playoffs once again. But Ill be out there drinking $9 micro brews with everyone else.

Well said about the Friars amsuarez86. It would be nice , to get a full season out of Quentin, Headley, Maybin, Alonso, Caberra, the pitching staff. I think if the team stays healthy maybe win about 85 to 90 games. The pads are going to be involved in a lot of one run games the bullpen is key it has to stay healthy............

Cash the starter and Johnson not gonna throw for a month. This is the beginning of the end for us, guys. Get used to hearing his name on the IR list. Good to see Venable and Quentin loose at the plate.

I will be there opening night and day! Anyone else?

That'll work. And I especially enjoyed seeing Brian Wilson give em up late.

Oh man! That was a great game! A couple things definitely havent changed:

    Quentin being hurt.

Johnson has an apparent injury that is worse than they want to admit.

Our small ball nature came to save us!

Denorfia deserves to start (like I already mentioned)

    But heres the good:

Grandal will be a name we will be hearing a lot more of later.

Alonzo looked relaxed and trim, definitely going to break out if he stays healthy.

Seth Smith will find more playing time.

We have increased our depth and will battle the injury bug a lot better this year.

We look good after one game, I will be there Tuesday and I am excited to see Kennedy out on the hill. GO PADS!

btw Wilson is a hack, and is going to have an awful year. If the Dodgers dont buy any bullpen guys, they are in for some serious trouble. Mark my words.

I didn't see the game. Did he leave his dyed beard in San Francisco?

Did anyone go to the game? What did you think of the announcer auditions?

Kind of seems tacky to do that in the regular season...

The win last nite really helped take the sting off the Aztec lost on Thursday. Yeah it was nice to see B. Wilson get beat up. There's a reason the Giants let him go..... The Smith H.R., heads up base running by Grandal, the clutch hit by Denorifia, the 3 and out by Street. AS the late Jerry Colemen would say, You can Hang A Star on that one.......
