I have a crazy schedule the rest this week(& Murray is closed tomorrow). so I headed over to at least get one day of fishing in this week. Not crowded(like it was going to be...ha ha) and I started pulling my rods out and decided to hook on a crank bait. My first cast of the day and a bass slammed it and pulled him in. (That could be a curse to catch one so quickly). It was true for a bit as I threw some more reaction baits and chased a few boils. Time was flying by even though most looked like small bass, but heck, catching them on a reaction bait is fun. Needless to say, I was concerned if I would even catch another fish, so I settled down and threw a couple plastic worms. Still nothing, I put on a craw bait in deeper water, got bit and pulled in a bass which felt good. I stayed in that area and a little while later pulled in another bass which was a dink. Then after no more bites there I moved on near the tulles and finally pulled in another dink on a ned rig. Worked the tulles flippin for a bit and nothing. I saw a couple of swirls on the surface and grabbed my rod with a spoon on it and fired right in the middle of it and pulled in what would have been my fifth bass(you decide...) because as I lifted him in the spoon went one way and the bass bounced on the deck and into the water.
Not a big bass(maybe 2 lbs)...but not sure if I could count it, I went back to a point in search of an official 5th bass. The wind came up and it was back to a craw bait and tap, tap....I felt a bite, set the hook and this bass was a fighter. The good news is this bass did not bounce back in the water and was my biggest of the day at 5.25lbs.
Overall , it was kind of slow. Great to see and chat with my buddy Larry out there and glad I got out to fish at least one day this week. So I caught 5 and do I get a extra "half a fish" for the one that bounced off my deck into the water? Ha ha
I know mcfish would say no...but would you count it if it happened to you?
    Just curious... :)

After not catching one for quite a while after my first bass...I guess
    I was pretty happy. :)

Way to change it up VinnyBass and catch a limit. I vote COUNT the bass that flopped on your deck. Hey, it was in the boat! :emoji_relaxed: Thanks for the report and pics!

Thanks Brett. In a way, I am now kind of glad that the bass flopped out of my boat because if it didn't, I probably would have headed home then. Instead, I stayed a little bit longer trying to get my 5th bass and happy with the one I did catch. Overall, based on a few guys I talked to....the fishing was pretty slow.

You know I was just being light hearted on the issue as it honestly did not matter that it bounced out and sorry if it came out like it was a big deal. I imagine if a guy was in a tournament he would not be happy if that fish was important to his totals. I really just wondered what others think about it. I fished with guys that if the bass was within a few feet of the boat and comes unbuttoned they count it. Others say it does not count till you actually have it in your hand. I fish out of a kayak too and have lost fish within reach of the kayak which is not fun and so far have not lost one that bounced out of it. If I do......I will count it like you said. Tight lines my friend :)

Lake Barrett rules (which apply in all normal fisheries) dictate that any bass you could have netted or touched under 4lbs counts and any bass under 3lbs that comes unbuttoned relatively close to the boat counts. They especially count on treble bait hooks as they save you the trouble of having to deal with getting them out.

Congrats on the 6 fish day at Murray. Our only lake that I have never come even remotely close to figuring out from shore, float tube or boat. If it wasn't for your posts, I might not believe the lake held any bass over 2lbs, or more than 2 bass period.

I'm planning on going to Murray this coming Wednesday. Do you think the fish will be biting?
    I'm asking for a friend.
