Ventured out again a lot farther than my usual mile and a half stop at Lake Murray. After the scenic drive I finally headed down to the water to park and launch my kayak. There was a truck next to me and low and behold it was mcfish, who just happened to be there too. Anyway....we exchanged pleasantries and off we both went in different directions. First bass was on a spinnerbait and picked up a couple more down the line on plastic worms. The bite was kind of slow and just like last time I decided to see how mcfish was doing. He agreed the bite was very slow. I was going to move on, but of course suddenly he caught a bass and then another so I hung around. Then it was my turn and it was weird as suddenly we would catch bass in streaks and it was really fun. Some of my assortment of baits included spinnerbaits, senkos, craw baits, roboworms and even got one on a modified chatter bait and I probably tied on a few others. mcfish laughed at my endless selection of baits, but he was the wiser one by sticking to what works for him and it sure did. Heck....if I stuck to one rod and one bait, I would have probably landed more bass...ha ha
I am trying to keep this report low key, but mcfish just has this lake wired as he again just like the other week, while I did ok, he picked up many more bass than I did. The saddest part of the day was when mcfish hooked about a nice bass between 5-6lbs and it shook off just a few feet from his tube. He later caught a consolation bass that weighed 4 1/4lbs, but still was thinking of the one he lost. My biggest bass today was 4 1/2lbs and overall, it was fun and just glad that the bite improved from the slow morning start. Great hanging out with you mcfish....just please stay away from Murray.

Shhhhh...just one pic (what the heck!) :)

Good job getting further out. I think I need to do the same and go a lil bit outta the way for me.

Fishing next to Mr. Vinnybass is constant amusement! He is proof that there's more than one way to catch a fish on any certain day! It's funny to watch him catch a fish and then immediately change to a whole different style bait! He did that after several different fish..just cracked me up! I'm the total opposite..I find a hot pattern and stick to it til I die! I think I threw the same bait the last 6 hours! A fun day all around, caught a bunch of fish , and had great company! I guess I would of had more fun if I didn't have a big fish jump and throw my worm..right after Mr. Vinnybass said he was ready to take it's photo..lol! We also both busted off big fish on hooksets! Vinny's a heck of fisherman and a heck of a fun guy! I'm hijacking his post for my photo, since he took the picture! Screenshot_20210409-171954_Messages.jpg

A little closer to home there is a river that is a fun place to catch bass as you know and have done many times.
I will put that on my fun places to fish calendar soon. :)
    Tight lines Tony

I had a nightmare that I was there too and could not catch a fish if my life depended on it. I dreamed that I only caught one fish and lost a 5er right at the tube! Whew, glad it was only a dream. I also dreamed that I almost fooled VinnyBass into thinking I was a Warden!

Summary, A slim purple worm is the hot bite, but Vinny can catch one on a spinner bait.

What was your spinner bait target and retrieve Vinny? High in the water column dragging bottom?
    I love junk fishing too!

Spinnerbait: fishing in 5-10 feet of water.....I was thinking it was in about 4-5 feet down with a slow non-stop retrieve.
Modified Chatterbait- Fishing in 15-20 feet of water....thinking the bait was down pretty close to the bottom with a stop and go action retrieve.

    Enough info? ha ha
I was using Izor line with those baits. :)

It's funny because last week a warden on shore asked me in my float if I had my license!

What the heck, if you're going to lose a 5'er at the boat, in that nightmare, may as well make it a DD!! ;/)
    Bummer.

If I only had a kayak or tube, I could have joined you both. Instead I waited till Saturday so I could launch my boat. Thanks for the report and pics. Tight lines Vinny!!

Murray has performed for many of us!
It's not us though, that lake needs water quality and fishery management.

I sometimes do the same thing Mcfish.
Don't know why but suspect that subconsciously I believe the bait switch may increase my odds of catching a wily, old monster that is sitting down there watching all the young bucks getting caught.

Well, it's primarily managed for drinking water quality, and I don't know how different that is from managing one as a fishery.
