After reading the forums, and hearing everyone’s opinions of salad infested waters I decided to go north. Torrey Pines was the idea, but quickly changed once I arrived to no parking. Technically I could’ve walked a bit but nah. Went to Del Mar instead, immediately scoped the beach for salad. Didn’t see much, a small clump here and there and the sand was just about void of it as well. Second task was to find the crabs. East peasy, they were everywhere, from micros to half dollars. Any size you wanted. So, I was already happy with my session before I even wet a line since I figured I’d be showing up to horrible conditions. To fish comfortably would be a bonus. For the first hour I was wondering if I was even gonna get bit at all. Lots of casting and walking. And then a medium/micro combo b2b would answer my question. 7” bsp on board. Skunk off. 10 mins later I got the screamer I was begging for. Just a middle grade 19” bean, but man did it feel good. It bled a little but swam away like a champ. Not a single bite again for the next two hrs. Tomorrow will be a Torrey Pines day, as long as I get there early enough.
