Had a club tournament at Sutherland. We only have 10 boats so was not too bad on the rest of the paying fisherman.
Got a late start. Couldn't get my teen son up. Left him in bed. Frustrating. As my dad used to say " He who hoots with the Owls at night - won't fly with the Eagles at dawn.
So I made it thru the " Old Milky Way " shortcut at 545 am.
Got on the water at 630.
    Last man out.
    Didn't catch a fish till 946.
Carolina rigged brush hog. 12 ft.
Stayed with it and got another 30 minutes later. Same spot...roughly.
Biggest rocky spot on the shore fishing side. Just North of the fishing dock.
Then got one on a jig ( same spot ) 20 minutes later.
Moved down the shore a ways...searching. Nothing.
    Then came back.
Heard something and looked up and here comes an older guy ( like me )..in a kayak. He gets right up to me and says " I watched you move down over there. Pointing to where I went searching. I could see he was annoyed?
I said" yep - I get around pretty good with this here trolling motor."
I said " pull up and make some casts if you want. "
He was having none of that and went on his way.

    I don't know...weird....Yet funny.

So I left there with no more catches.
Went to another rocky shore and caught a little keeper on a jig in about 12 ft...again.

Then nothing till 230 then another Carolina rig fish.
    Weigh in at 3.
I Had 13 lbs and change for 5 fish. Good for third place........
First place was 15 and change.
Big fish was a nice 5.15 lbs.
Another guy had a 5.07 pounder - but no big fish money for him....
Overall a pretty decent day. Not many biters though.

So Vinney there you go - a report from me as promised.... but damn this is work. Pushing all these buttons and proofreading

Great to see a report from you biggbass! Very nicely done and fun to read like I was actually there in the boat with ya. A few weeks ago I only had one bite and one bass till around 9:30 something and was very worried I would only catch one bass...and then suddenly caught 11 after that. Hey.....you came in 3rd and only a couple pounds from 1st place. That is pretty cool! I never fished tournaments but I imagine it can be a lot of fun especially kidding around with other bass fishermen.
Oh yeah...I imagine the older guy in the kayak was Vic, a Sutherland local who is on the water every day the lake is open. Anyway it can be a lot of work sometimes to do a report, but you did a great job(You get "A")writing about your day on the water during your tournament.
We hope to see some more reports in the future from you.
    Tight lines always! :)

Catching a limit during a tournament at this lake is VG.
Sounds like a fun day out there

So you all know this vic guy ?
    What gives ?
    Tell me tell me.
Now a few guys in our club that I talked to this morning also were harassed by thus Vic guy...
One of them said if he was a few years younger that he would have been in fight mode.
This guy vic just started chewing him out.
Cussing and whatnot. Our club guys are pretty low key. Not aggressive. So I don't understand why this guy came off like that.

Lol! Appreciate the effort! You were on one of Vic's spots, better know to some of us as mcfish 's spot. Now known as everybody's spot! Oh well, they say there are no secret spots!

He fishes the lake fri, sat, and sunday..I guess that makes it his lake! I fish the lake every Friday..so I guess I'm just renting it from him!! lol! He gets kind of crazy about spots..normally he'll come throw his buoy right next to you, and say it's his spot..kind of funny, in a weird way! He actually can be kind of helpful about baits and spots..if he likes you, or doesn't hate you!! I'll see him coming from across the lake and I never know what mood he's going to be in..I let him talk first!

haa - us fishermen are a different breed. We spend all this time effort and money to catch them then we let them go. First world problems. :emoji_relaxed:
    Thanks for the insight.

So, this Vic person is not OK.
Let's look at his behavior & decide if it would be ok for everyone to act this way at public lakes....
The lakes are for all to enjoy & no one person "owns" any lake or any spot on any lake.
This comes down to basic common courtesy...
Which unfortunately is becoming less & less common

    That is Vics Lake!

He's just an old grouch....you get to close to him and he will chew you a new one!
He's so old ....we allow him to get away with it. Puts so much time out there.....and this year especially...its been packed on that pond that he usually has almost to himself.
My opinion is that this pond should not have tournaments allowed. Too small and too much pressure!
You guys think 12 boats doesn't hurt the bite for the local non tournament guys?
    Wrong!
That lake can't take pressure like this and the results from your tournament show it.

By the way....is there a guy in your club with a white Champion with a blacked out Mercury 250?
If so ......I have plenty of words to throw down on this here site.

I hear the "Grandfathered" take on SD lakes.
    I'm an SD native, 69', & I get it 100%.
But times change, & change is constant.
Adaption to change is how it is nowadays.
Plz try to be respectful & considerate on our lakes.

Sounds like a great fishing trip!! I feel your pain with all the pressure to tell some of the more prolific members on here what you're doing all the time. Don't let em get to you. If your fingers are sore, that's ok you can just read and learn. Not everyone feels the need to report in after every trip. Tight lines and remember always have fun.

I get Vic..but it's not a private pond! I've fished around him several times, you just don't force the situation! I'd like to claim San V..been fishing it since '63, and many years, 3 or 4 times a week! But, I can't act like a jerk if someone's on MY spot..because it's not really my lake! I always felt like it was Bill Murphy's lake though! He never treated me like crap if I was on one of HIS spots! Heck, I've been fishing Murray since before San V, many years 7 days a week when I was growing up! I guess I own Lake Murray then..and all it's spots! However, I deeded Murray to Mr. Vinnybass, and he can decide if he wants to share it..or the rangers will decide! I also tried to claim surf spots growing up!! We've all got to share..we really don't have a choice!

If I get on a great bite, I enjoy calling others in, especially dads with there kids. If you stay off the fish you can work the outside it's a fun time.
I love watching others do well, I've caught my share.
I've had guys yell 200 yards you cut me off, ok.and there going the other way.
    Really.

The fact that people let him get away with it is the reason he continues to do it.
