FishNinja bought a PA14 yesterday so we had to test out his new fishing platform.

Launched Ski Beach about 5:30pm on a cold slightly windy afternoon. I had the Big Tuna in tandem configuration as I had to haul around FishNinja ’s 21 year old girlfriend. It was kinda nice. She paddled while I fished.....

It took 15 minutes and FishNinja had his first fish on his new Kayak. He had a Blue Megabait he bent and scored under the bridge. It was about an hour until I got my first spottie. And only after I switched to a 1/4 Oz HUB. My 1/2 Oz Warbait with a Big Hammer Senorita was a bust.

From 5:30 -7pm and we had 2 clones each. I got my second in front of the ski beach dock at the 5mph buoy. FishNinja yelled for me to get to his spot. He had just reeled in 3 clones in 3 casts and his 7” Lowrance HDS Gen3 was beeping like crazy with a screen full of arches. I got to his spot. He said to drop straight down, “they’re under my kayak!”.....We were both using a pink 1/4oz HUB and for about 25 minutes it was wide open clone Spotties.

    Pro Angler 14 = 12 clones
Big Tuna = 9 clones and dinks

    Low Tide: 4:20pm
    High Tide: 10:18pm
    Water Temp: 64.5 degrees
    Time on Water: 5:30pm-7:45pm
    Water Dirty and Brown
Water more clear mid Channel with a 1 mph south to north current.

I know fishing has been scratchy from shore in MB lately. We started close to shore, but we found them midway between Ski Beach and Fiesta Island in 12-14 feet of water. Hope this helps. A couple teens fishing from dock with no luck. When we landed a guy on the rocks just south of the ramp reported 4 dink spots in 3 hours.....

It has been tough. I think I'll take some time off the bay for a bit and work the surf. I'm thinking there's something different with the water or tides that I'm just not noticing. Its frustrating to be chucking swimbaits for sometime with not much to show for it.

Its interesting to me that they were holding that deep.

That’s why I wanted to share my findings. I was equally surprised. My usual spots were not producing. I could get by the many comments that MB was difficult and until we found them, I would probably have chimed in saying it was scratchy with only 2.....

Not sure if it’s the storms, colder water or Red Tide......As an observation from last Thursday, I shared with Werfless that the LJK and water outside the Jetty was actually warmer than the water in front of Dana Landing... I usually see the opposite....

Huh, that is weird, definitely counterintuitive. I wish we had someone from SIO to help crack this lol. It does seem strange how all this is happening as it is right now.

Yup. He loved it. He was strutting his stuff literally doing a couple circles around us while I kept his girlfriend safe and dry.....But I did make her paddle most of the the time while I fished....LOL

As much as I admit the PA is a fine Fishing Machine, I told him my Kayak “ONLY COST $700!” And I have no intention of getting a PA........I can either borrow his (tee hee hee) or let him tow me around (like I did yesterday - LOL).....After all, he needs my Suburban to get his PA to/from the water.....

I got back this morning after dropping the brother off at the airport and thankfully the bite was on. They were biting where I thought they were before, which is at the far edge of the grass that is hard to reach at higher water levels, thankfully this morning it was low tide at like 7 so I was able to get way out there and cast into what is probably a bit of a deeper channel.

In hindsight I missed a great chance to go to mariners point and fish for some halibut.

Unfortunately I think the dredging has a lot to do with the ****ty MB fishing. I've fished MB for 10+ yrs with amazing results. But sense the dredging started I've noticed the fishing has died down to the point I don't waste my time anymore going. It sucks but the city made the choice to dredge for better boater safety but in return damn near killed the fishery. Just gotta hope they an replant what they destroyed and the fish come back. Until then I'll stick with SDB and LJ for my fishing.

Yea, I'm slowly giving up on MB as well. Sucks the dredging is changing things. But like you, it gets a little disappointing to head out there for not much. When I'm fly fishing thats ok, but not when I make the drive down to MB from north county and I'm going for spotties or whatever else will bite.

Completely agree the only positive I have is I tend to fish the back bay more now which is closer for me and I've had decent success so far but nothing like a MB maybe 4 yrs ago the fishing was awesome so many spots that produced sad those days are gone.
