Last night I was thinking of going to Murray for a few hours in my kayak this morning. I woke up and I didn't feel like going to Murray and actually did not feel like going anywhere. I was sitting in the house drinking a cup of coffee and eating a piece of sourdough toast. Deb kept saying I should go fishing(usually your better half would be saying "are you going fishing again?"ha ha!). Anyway. I told her I did not feel like it and then after her still trying to convince me to go, I just told her..Ok,...I am just going to Murray then for a few hours. I put on some fishing clothes, loaded my kayak on my truck and off I went.
Well, a funny thing happened on the way to Murray. I just did not feel like fishing Murray and instead I decided to head to the SD river(the peaceful place where no permit needs to be purchased). I figured some free fishing sounded better and I could leave sooner than if I paid for a permit and kayak fee at Murray.
I tried spinnerbaits, some flukes and a underspin and no takers. I then went tighter to shore and started flipping the tulles and stick-ups......yes mcfish...with a Tokyo rig. Suddenly my crawbait got slammed and the bass took off and I lost it in the stick-ups. I lost a second bass on a Tokyo rig with a senko in some sunken tree branches. Not a good start.
I continued working stickups and tulles and finally started picking up bass here and there. Some were small and a couple were pretty chunky. I used senkos and craw baits(Rage craw, Krackin craw etc) and despite 3 more coming unbuttoned in the thick cover, I was able to land 7 bass this morning with my top 2 fish going 5 1/2lbs and 5 lbs on the button.
Always thinking about the fish I lost....but this was fun and it was free and I almost did not even go fishing. :)

I just know that one of the bass I lost was pretty hefty. I saw it when it broke the surface and then it freight-lined back in the stick ups and I couldn’t turn it as it peeled my drag and then came unbuttoned.
Still...I had a good day and happy I was able to catch a couple healthy bass.:)

Hey....it was really fun chatting with you and I love your new kayak!!! You pulled in a number of bass and a
nice 6lb plus one that day also out of the grass which had to be pretty exciting in your new rig. I ended up getting some small ones in the tulles and one off the point on a senko. I have been watching videos on the kayak you have and I am trying not to get temped to get one...ha ha
Again...nice job out there the other day and tight lines always! :)

That is funny because I guess I look up to you because you are taller and of course for your vast wealth of fishing knowledge. :)

How is your Toyota truck, your fishing reels, hat, etc etc and several other things you use that are made in Japan???
I will help you in anyway I can because mcfish does not want to use a Tokyo rig because he can’t hook a 3 inch robo worm on it.... ha ha

I need to keep telling myself...I have a boat and a nice kayak and I am fine.....but I keep thinking about the Hobie Lynx you have now and how light it is before tackle and mirage drive. Only 45lbs vs 105lbs for my PA12!!! ....Definitely lighter would be a big plus for me.

Of course...knowing me...with all the added accessories and some of my tackle it would weigh more that my PA 12...ha ha
