Finally made it out to Otay with my float tube yesterday morning. The weather was nice, I managed to put two Bass in the tube and got my drop shot setup mangled in the tullies many times. Here's one bass I managed to take a picture of with my iPhone in a weather proof case lol I'll definitely spend some more time out there, I fished from 6am till 10am and then headed to work. Fishing from the tube was fun but was more of a workout then fishing from a boat rental haha I definitely need to buy a bass boat soon.

    Some nice looking fish!

The reflection on the first one made me do a double take.

I've been debating getting a tube myself but can't seem to pull the trigger.

It's good for ya! Haha! Did the wind mess with ya? Which fins did you use?

Yeah, my legs were burning crossing the lake lol The wind was not that bad actually. The fins I'm using are called Hot Spot.

Nice! Word of advice with the tube: work with the wind. kick upwind to whatever area you want to fish and let the wind drift you to said spot. Do that or turn your body, if possible, with your back against the wind so you can gently kick so you can stay in any particular area. its keep your legs from getting tired and you can save your energy to kick back to the spot where you launched from. Took me awhile to figure out but hope it helps.

Thanks for the advice! I was working with the wind, but cutting across the lake to the docks was the only trouble I had. I even brought my outcast anchor and didn't need to use it.

This is good advice for locations where wind patterns are fairly predictable. I have experienced 4-5 wind changes in a morning session. Often the wind dictates how and where I fish.

Nice! Reminds me of my first and only time out tubin otay last year around this time. Caught three myself. Really miss it. The problem is I live almost an hour away. Might make the annual trip down soon.

A one hour drive makes things a bit more difficult if you are trying to be there when the lake opens. I got tired of Murray and decided to try Otay and will be going back soon. You should go again this year too.

What? Cutting across the lake to the docks? You mean you kicked across the main lake to Bushlow cove and back? Wow, no wonder you were tired, that's like 1/2 mile across. Nobody does that, they go down to the end of one of the main arms and kick around, plenty of fish without so much work, or stay along the shore where the dock is, one side or the other. Don't kill yourself, unless your trying out for the Olympic sports I guess, they are around there you know! ;/)

Another option to launch float tubes is from the North bank entrance to Harvey's Arm. You can purchase your lake permit at a metal box there as well. If you're not familiar with this area you will see an entrance road with a yellow gate off Otay Lakes Rd. right after a few sweeping turns once you pass the Upper Lakes parking area.

Thanks for the great info Otay Michael! I'd rather spend more time fishin' than kickin' lol

Fishfool, I'm clueless as to where the location your explaining to me is. I'll have to look it up on a Map to see how to get there, thanks!
