Got a private charter group together and jumped on the Vendetta with Captain Ray and crew - we originally had offshore plans, but with with Islands yellowtail popping, we decided to wipe the dust off those passports.

Medium and small sized sardine, mainly beat up, some nice ones in the mix.

After cruising around for a little, we ran into a school at North Island. Flylines did good on that stop, 3 hook-ups only one landed. Seals were relentless. Ran into maybe 5 or 6 more schools, fish were really active and hitting everything... bait, iron, stickbait. 1/0 hook and 25 to 40 pound test worked for me when I was fishing bait. Probably should have started heavier with the seal casualties.

These yellowtail were 15 to 20 pound grade and grumpy as hell. Was fun to button the drag down on them after getting a few on the board.

Nice schools with boils everywhere, most action for us was morning through noon. Crew said previous days it was more of an afternoon bite. Many fish caught with the surface iron. Got 3 on the surface iron. I also had a yoyo tied on, but never needed to use. Nice change of pace from bluefin fishing. Good to see everyone go home with fish. Now can't wait for yellowfin and Dorado to go off!

Great captain, great crew - first time in the Vendetta, would definitely do it again.
