We started our afternoon of fishing on Imperial Beach Pier. Lots of people out on a beautiful afternoon, but not much catching for anyone. All we managed was a small jacksmelt in a couple of hours. So we packed up, drove up the Silver Strand and went to fish the bay from behind the Coronado Community Center. Such a relaxing place to fish from... nice glass wall, great views, and lots of space. We threw out multiple lines with a wide range of hook sizes, but all the action came from the size 4 circle hook with market shrimp.

The highlight was our first-ever Black Croaker. Gave a good fight and made some cool croaking sounds when it arrived at our bucket.

We also caught a couple of small spotties. The interesting thing to us is that one of the spotties had a 4" grub filling up most of its mouth when we caught it. We were using shrimp, not grubs! Apparently, having that grub in its mouth didn't stop it from taking our shrimp. (The grub didn't have a hook in it either... not sure why the fish didn't spit it back out.)

Here's the spottie and the grub after GRS (grub removal surgery).
