I took a couple days to do some work on my place out at the River and found an hour and half to do a little fishing off the dock. We've had this place out at Parker for about 45 years, so every so often it needs a little TLC on the yard and the house! The river fishes really fun up there in March and April and it didn't disappoint even though I never left my dock! I neko rigged a 6" robo worm and picked up 10 smallies and a chubby little largemouth in that short period of time. It's tough to pick up the largemouth now because the smallmouth are so aggressive and have taken over alot of their habitat. If you want to have some fun and catch a boatload of fish, now's the time at Parker, and the smallies are more than eager to take a crankbait or plastics. I've caught them up to 4lbs before around some of the rockier areas. They love the chunk rock sand bar type areas. Go get em! Looks like it was fun! I liked the pics and you look a lot taller when you’re not sitting in a float tube. Thanks for sharing your adventure with us. :)

I noticed on your post that you put 2 pics of the lizards you hung out with. I imagine the 3 of you had a blast together.......just like you mentioned....."what happens at the river, stays at the river."

Looks like a lot of fun! I've been trying to do some out of town fishing for a change of pace and your report makes me want to do a little bit of exploring in that area. I used to do a lot of river smallmouth fishing in Oregon and I miss that style of fishing. I do have a couple questions though if you wouldn't mind:

    - Is that portion of the river kayak friendly? I'm referring mostly about the current and if there's any legal launch areas nearby.
    - Is there decent cell service in the area?
    - Any general rules as far as river etiquette/unwritten codes of conduct? It looks like there's lots of riverfront properties in that area and I wouldn't want to piss anyone off.

Wow, 45 years of ownership in Parker. That's awesome! I bet you have seen so changes and prices go up in that amount of time=) Congratulations!

As for Kayaking on Parker. It can be the bumpiest area on the river. Early Spring and Fall are okay. I would not want to do Summer unless it's only for the first hours of the morning. Then it's Victory at Sea after that.

Yes calmer down river by the so called sandbar.

Boat wakes bouncing off the sea walls and rocky shorelines create some crazy chop. I have seen numerous boat sink there. They are almost always the low jet boats. All you see is the bow of the boat floating down river. They look like shark fins sometimes.

Do you have a motor on your kayak, because there's good small mouth fishing below palo Verde dam in the blyth area but there is a lot of current. I float tubed and kayaked main river but usually park and walk up then drift. But you can go up current with a paddle its just alot of work.

Yep, that last quarter mile before the dam is now a no wake area. The casino got pissed their docks were getting rocked by wakeboard boats! The big sandbar on the north side is amazing for big smallies up shallow in March, sometimes April! During the week, the mornings are pretty calm that first mile up from the dam. Fish the docks and the south shore along the cane, out in 6'-10' of water. Stay away from the Casino docks though! The north side is mostly tulles and pretty shallow..lots of carp!! I've never been hastled fishing by docks, people fish mine all the time. if you feel brave, go up another mile and fish the big rock outcroppings that drop into deeper water. The river is a little faster up there since its narrower. You can launch a kayak anywhere you find an opening east of the casino. I like fishing the last couple hours before sunset also! Weekends are going to start getting crazy with the air and water warming up. Mostly 90s+100s the next 5 months. Don't go on 4th of July...you will be run over...seen it, more than once.

I've pulled 5 or 6 flat bottom drag boats up on my ramp so they could pump the water out after they submarine them...and yep. Only about a foot of the bow is above water! The one guy borrowed his friends boat..and sank it..he was actually crying when we pulled him up! I've also watched a boat t-bone another at 40 mph..at night...not a good outcome.

I've even float tubed down by the dam and sandbar..it kind of depends whether they open up the dam to let water out..current can get pretty quick if they open it up...fish like it though!

45 years ago, I never thought there would be million dollar houses between Havasu and Parker. We actually lease the land from the Colorado River Indian tribe. We had a 10 year lease, then they cut them to 5, then to one..now we actually don't have a lease, they tell us just to pay month to month. They claim they want to build a golf course on the property..ain't never gonna happen..there's already one a couple miles up River! If they kick us out, my house might mysteriously burn down...

I can't talk about what happens with the lizards, raccoons, beavers, and skunks that frequent the property...sometimes I am on the losing end though!

Thank you very much for all the informative tips, especially about the danger from boaters. I have a Hobie that's very difficult to swamp, and am mostly concerned by getting hit by someone. I see what you mean by the massive wake; I'm looking at google maps and some of the boats have wakes wider than the riverfront homes. It looks like there's lots of water to explore in that area for sure.

Sweet!! But I am so upset and jealous right now! We were supposed to be there for a week with the bass boat and fish the river, but we cancelled…. Dang it! Great job catching them though!
