Took a little ride down to the south end of MB this morning( where the salt meets the fresh). Fished the Spook Jr for about 45 minutes. Two blowups.....both halibut(saw them both) but neither one stuck. The good news is that the fish were there and willing to chase a bait a little bit. Maybe tomorrow.......tight lines

Curious, what have you found to be the topwater rod of choice?

Ok....first off I have only been fishing topwater stuff for the last couple years. Not years of experience to rely on. Most of that fishing takes place in the dark as opposed to daylight. Repeated casting and retrieveing in the dark made me want it to be a spinning rod. 7' medium power something like that. The lures I use (Spook jr, Storm Arashi, YoZuri TDS 100 etc) range in weight from 1/2-3/4 oz so the rod needs enough backbone that the lure doesn't overpower the rod making the line release problematic when casting. The rod also needs a softer tip than on most fast action rods to be able to walk the dog easily. So 7' spinning rod with a moderate bend works best for me. I just bought a Ugly Stik Elite rod from BPS that fits the bill perfectly.....50 bucks out the door. I should also point out that for this fishing I use mono.....not braid. Having a little stretch in the line is a good thing for this application. once again this is what works for me.....other folks may well have a completely different take on what makes for a good topwater rod. Tight lines
