We were back in the trees at El Cap yesterday Tuesday. I could hear another boat way back where we were trying to chop through brush and trees yet I could not see them? About 2 hours later an older guy pops up in his boat... He does not say anything. He is
Just floating next to us. I ask him how he is doing and he looks and slowly says fine. We move on and keep fishing. 10 min later he is behind us and asks How do I get out of these trees? He said he had been lost and going in circles for 3 hours. I had him follow me to the exit point of the trees. He still had to get through a little puzzle section on his own. That still took him 20 min or more. It should have taken 2 min. We heard his big motor going and then he high tailed out.

I am glad we were there as he may have been back there all night. It can be a maze back there and if you have never been back there it can be a bit crazy.

He may have had some type dyslexia that got him confused. Glad he made it out.

I was back there about a month ago in my kayak and came within 5 feet of a southern pacific rattlesnake hanging out in the shade of one of those trees. When we noticed each other, we went opposite directions but be careful!

Somehow I have a hard time visualizing anyone getting lost in the trees at el cap. I had absolutely no idea people could actually get so deep into the trees that they could actually drop out of sight.

I’ve never actually been there when the water’s been high but it’s a tiny lake...

When I think of getting lost in the trees, I guess one of those massive Texas reservoirs with tons of standing timber that can extend for a mile or two in some areas comes to mind.

Once back there it can be strange. Its quite large and there are several different channels. Some dead end thinking you can get out and others dead end going in. I dont know how a person would get lost yet if you get confused it could be very easy.

Seems like a hand held GPS would come in real handy

More like a chain saw! Like Linebig said, passages that used to exist do not exist now! You can hear people talking but cannot figure out how they got in there!
Or put down the White Russians! Don't let them meddle in your fishing!

We could get cell service back there yet the GPS would not show you a way out of the trees. At least you could call and say you were back there....

When I first went back the way we went in we were the first boat to cut that trail. Found out there was a much easier way a few days later.... hahaha... a little ways in the thick stuff if I made a right and plowed through this blow down it would have been way easier and way less dirty and nasty. Oh well.... Still got back. My only worry back there as its gets tighter and tighter pushing through is not being able to turn around... I have tools on board to help just in case.... Yet thats my worry.... I know there is open water back there.... its just getting there.

Yep, however cant post photos any longer. My phone makes the file too large now. Funny as its the same phone I have been using for 3 years... Kellen must have changed the file sizes.

That's weird. Did you try going into your phone settings and reduce the resolution?

I have been doing pretty well back there. Its a timing thing. Its not always good. Its not like you would think. Going back you would see it and think you’ll slay’m. Nope.... might not even get a single blow up. Or maybe you get a single blow up. I have been back there on 4 different days no less than 3 times per day and it was different each time. Yet it keeps drawing back... hahaha...

Thats the problem..... Looks can be very deceiving. Every cast looks like it could be the one yet you get blanked over and over. And then Wham... and you lost concentration and missed it..

Has it been worth it? We eked out 9, but it was mostly slow! Did you fish the thick green mat?
