I went out today in Mission Bay starting at 4:30 and using the 4" z-man badshad paddler. Same spot as last session. Within the first 10 minutes I get 3 bites. I was having that same problem when you set the hook, the rod loads up, and it just lets go (usually replacing the exposed hook with grass). I don't know how that happens but my guess is the hook was in the hard part of the mouth so the hook didn't go in or I didn't let them eat it long enough. I usually set the hook pretty forcefully with my penn battle combo. But they bit so hard so I didn't have the wind up for the hook set. Those missed bites always feel the biggest. After that the next 30min gave me 4 bass and another big missed bite.

Sometime during the next hour I switch to the 6in. Kalins Magambo Grub in Root Beer color and land the last spotty in the dark.

There was this annoying seeweed (don't know the name of) that I was dealing with the whole time. I don't know when it shows up but I hate it:rage:. It caught on my line or my bait 3/4 casts. No weedless bait can avoid that seaweed. It was frustrating and probably cost me a couple fish. I was dealing with it last time to. It was worse in some spots on the shoreline then other spots.

    I left at 6:30.
    Final count:
    5 spotties in two hours.

    Good sesh!
I feel like I get that heavy load on the bigger Zmans. Like they chomp hard and miss the hook, but due to the stretch it feels fairly solid until it pops. Rather than a normal plastic that just gets pulled out of the mouth quickly, the "elaztic" allows hem to hold on longer. Just a thought.

I remember reading one of your posts a while back saying how bad that grass it. Especially when you you know the bass are there.

Yea that stuff....It's the reason I thought a spot was unfishable on Sun. So thick it covered the whole DS. Frm the FG knot to the weight. Unfishable till @geofish pulled a massive grump from it. LOL. Will it disappear or will it stick around for a while

Usually it blooms after a rain then dies and washes out gradually. Nutrient excess from the runoff.....

I don't care what it is but I want it gone! Eel grass is by far my favorite weed.

I'm pretty sure I heard at some point that it was an invasive species of algae? Something like that.. For a while it was a serious pain the butt while I fishing around West MB, covered everything an actually seemed to kill off a bit of the eel grass.

If there's enough we could possibly get a die off like in the salton sea.

Yeah the bass hide in the muck. Especially when therr is no structure nearby. The big ones hide and ambush the baitfish.
