no weeds. calm surf. bite was hot at around 6:15 yet again. used sand crabs and salted mussels. they were comin in super close to feed. crab beds were legit everywhere. lots of fisherman. lots of people swimming. found a nice hole in the surf to put my lines into.

trifecta of fish caught today: 2 yellowfins, two corbinas, two spotfins

first time using circle hooks too. hook up ratio is decent but once the fish is hooked, its not getting off. So there are some tradeoffs for using circle hooks vs J/octopus hooks.

    tight lines everyone!!

What hook trade-offs are you referring to? It wasn’t clear what the benefit was of octopus hooks.

Octopus hooks for me have a better hookup ratio in terms of hooking the fish as it bites, but when it is hooked, the fish has a better chance to get free than if I were using circle hooks which hooks the fish in the corner of the mouth, a much more secure hook up. Octopus hooks tend to hook the fish in random places and sometimes even gut hooks the fish. Which is terrible on the days where I just fish CPR. Hope that helps!

I like using size 6 octopus hooks on dropshots when sw panfishing. They work really well
